Just completed subbing this drama. I didn’t watch the Korean version, but I heard that they made few tasteful references to the original drama.

Acting: A

Acting: I think they had a very strong cast. The funny scenes made me laugh, the action scenes were believable, and the sad scenes obviously brought me to tears. No complaints whatsoever.

Story: The half the series was used to established the teamwork, and the second half of the series was the actual case they solved. I really liked that the second part of the series ties back to episode 1 in the most unexpected ways. I do feel some episodes/scenes were redundant…

Cinematography: Much of the cinematography was not very memorable, so it gets an average scores from me.

Lastly, I have to talk about this drama in the context of current social problems.

To me, this drama came at the exact time police reforms were happening in America, and that influenced my decision to sub this instead of MIU. In first episode, I saw the cops in MIU do “whatever it takes to solve a case” and that completely rubbed me the wrong way right when we are protesting against police’s excessive use of force and verbal abuse.

On the other hand, Miman Keisatsu was about these two bright-eyed young police students who are so excited to bring justice to the world. I was excited to translate it because I needed to watch a police show where the police were loyal civil servants. And the ending of the show definitely didn’t disappoint me. Oikawa echoed my sentiment exactly.

To be fair to MIU, I don’t think the drama meant to portray itself as pro-Police. I think it was just a wrong drama at the wrong time. And I especially appreciated Hoshino Gen’s shoutout to #blacklivesmatter in his Instagram post on the last day of MIU.
